EMDR and Outdoor Therapy for Adults in Sunderland and Northumberland

I offer EMDR therapy for adults in Sunderland, with the option to work outdoors in a private woodland space in Longhorsley, Northumberland, within easy travel distance from Morpeth, Ponteland and Hexham. This can be helpful if you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, or affected by past experiences that continue to have an impact.

When things feel stuck or hard to shift

You might be managing day-to-day, but underneath things don’t feel right. You may feel overwhelmed, on edge, or caught in patterns that are difficult to change.

Sometimes you know what’s caused it. Other times, it’s less clear, just a sense that things feel harder than they should.

EMDR therapy

EMDR is a structured approach that helps process distressing or overwhelming experiences without needing to talk through everything in detail.

It can be particularly helpful for:

  • Medical trauma or difficult health-related experiences
  • One-off traumatic incidents, such as car accidents
  • Anxiety and panic
  • Phobias and specific fears
  • Grief and loss
  • Past experiences that still feel close or unresolved
  • Feeling stuck in patterns that don’t seem to shift
  • Situations that trigger strong emotional or physical responses

We work at a pace that feels manageable, helping things begin to feel less intense and easier to live with.

Outdoor EMDR and therapy

For some people, sitting face-to-face in a therapy room can feel too intense. Working outdoors can offer a different way to begin.

Sessions can take place in a private woodland space in Northumberland, where there is more space, less pressure, and a quieter environment. Being outdoors can help you feel more settled, making it easier to stay present during EMDR and talk about what feels difficult.

Outdoor sessions can be particularly helpful if you:

  • Feel overwhelmed in traditional therapy settings
  • Prefer not to sit face-to-face
  • Find it easier to think when moving or being outside
  • Want a less clinical, more natural environment

A flexible way of working

Sessions can take place in Sunderland, outdoors in Northumberland, or as a combination of both. This allows therapy to adapt to what feels most manageable for you.

Alongside EMDR, I also draw on psychotherapy where helpful, offering space to think, reflect and make sense of what’s going on.
